Come along to this HBP visit for a fascinating day out in Redruth, Cornwall. Starting with a special tour of the Kresen Kernow archive centre, which opened in 2019 to breathe new life and purpose into the formerly derelict and now renovated Redruth Brewery.After this, the tour goes to the centre of Redruth and the High Street Heritage Action Zone, led by the local Historic England team and taking in sites such as the Buttermarket, The Ladder and Murdoch House, some of which are currently in the process of restoration and redevelopment.

This is a rare chance to be part of a team helping to bring a Scottish watermill out of hibernation. The mill has been dormant for over a decade, but was in working order before being mothballed by the local council.A group of local volunteers, Mill of Benholm Enterprise, are in the process of taking on the site and have big plans for running the mill in future. The mill buildings are in good shape, but the grounds and vital water supply to the mill have become very overgrown and impede the use of the mill. We will also be joined by 2022 SPAB Millwright Fellow Owen Bushell, who will give an introduction to the mill machinery how it works, what its all for, and how it can be brought back into life to get the wheels turning once more. Owen will be very happy to take any questions you have about the building and process.

Arthur and John Morris played an important role in the development of Coombe, Firle and Glynde Places in Sussex and worked on houses in Lewes. They dealt directly with clients even when there was an architect. Amon and Amon Henry Wilds worked mainly in two towns, Amon Henry shifting from builder to architect. He made a big impact on Brighton, designing houses, projects, churches and chapels. There must have been many more local entrepreneurs like these and we need to know more about them. Sue Berry will investigate these interesting characters.

Join SPAB on a behind-the-scenes tour of Tarlair's historic lido. This is a fantastic opportunity to see how this Category A listed art-deco pool is being brought back to life. The once-glamourous buildings and pool had fallen into disrepair since closing in 1995. Parts of the triple-level pool were made safe in 2013, but the associated buildings remained at risk. On the visit, you'll see first-hand how the project is unfolding. There will also be plenty of time for thought-provoking discussion about conservation approaches to a 1930s building.
