Chartered Institute for Archaeologists 2020

YEARBOOK and DIRECTORY 2020 | 31 REGISTERED ORGANISATIONS THE CI f A REGISTER OF ORGANISATIONS 2020/21 In 1996 the institute launched the CIfA Register of Organisations, a valuable source of information for users of archaeological and historic environment services. Organisations on the register are identifiable by the designations ‘CIfA Registered Organisation’ or ‘registered as an organisation with the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists’, and by using the Registered Organisation logo in promotional literature. The scheme is designed to operate internationally, and organisations operating in Germany may use an alternative branding ‘Gütezeichen für Archäologie / Träger des CIfA-Gütezeichens für Archäologie’. A CIfA Registered Organisation is led by experienced Members (MCIfA) of the institute who have a track record of responsibility for substantial projects. They have personally undertaken to be bound by the Code of conduct , CIfA regulations and Standards and guidance, and are responsible for ensuring that all work undertaken by the organisation will comply with these requirements. Organisations are monitored for the quality of their work and must apply for registration every three years by completing a detailed application form and are subject to inspection by a panel of peers. Registration is approved by the Registration Committee (organisations). The committee may also decide to require further inspections and/or information within the period of registration where necessary. Customers of a CIfA Registered Organisation can commission work with the confidence that it will be undertaken in accordance with CIfA’s requirements. There is a professional conduct procedure, which can lead to the suspension or expulsion of an organisation from the register, www.archaeologists.net/regulation/complaints .
