CHARITABLE BODY
In April 2015 English Heritage separated into two organisations: Historic England (see separate entry), which is the new public body responsible for Engand's historic buildings, and English Heritage, a charity which looks after the national heritage collection of more than 400 historic places across England.
As a charitable trust, English Heritage is now dependent on donations and income from its properties. However, many are ruined monuments and are accessible free of charge. To ease the transition, the government awarded the trust £52 million to clear the backlog of essential conservation repairs at sites across the country.
