SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP
Formerly known as the Historic Houses Association (which remains its official title), Historic Houses is the national body representing independently owned historic houses, gardens and parks. Many of the properties are lived-in homes which may have remained in the same families' hands for hundreds of years, and many are open to the public.
Members of the public who join Historic Houses gain free access to over 300 historic houses and gardens across the UK during normal opening hours, and the opportunity to book places on exclusive private tours of many more.
Historic Houses provides help, support and lobbying to ensure the long-term protection and success of over 1,500 properties. Most of these buildings are listed at the highest grades but, being privately owned, are unable to benefit from government assistance or grant aid, and VAT relief is no longer available for their repair and conservation. |
