22nd Jul, 2025 Old St Paul’s, 63 Jeffrey Street, Edinburgh |

Join AHSS for a visit led by Rev David Todd and Fr Gerard Hatton. Old Saint Paul's Scottish Episcopal Church was founded in 1689 when Bishop Rose left his cathedral (St Giles), refusing to swear allegiance to William of Orange, and took many of his (Jacobite) congregation to a wool store in Carrubber's Close. It was the first Scottish Episcopal Church. The current building dates to 1883 and is a product of the Oxford Movement. We then take a short walk to St Patrick's R C Church. Fr Hatton, church administrator, will show us round the church, which has been an RC church since 1856, having been built in 1774 by John Baxter as a Scottish Episcopalian Church. |
