Conservation on the Edge: Mountain Bothy Association

20th 10, 2021
Online event

Bothies, small mountain shelters, are prevalent across Britain, but how they are repaired and cared for in such remote locations? This talk will focus on the history of the MBA, how it came to be responsible for these charming vernacular buildings, and look at case studies of works undertaken to particular buildings in recent years. There will be a special focus on works undertaken in summer 2021 at The Red House, near Braemar, where a small building is being brought back from near-ruin by volunteers. We will hear how masons have repaired the dangerously unstable gable walls and see how the inside has been fitted out.
