Historic Buildings and Places, The Lord Leycester Hospital visit

20th Mar, 2024
Warwick

Join us for a bespoke tour from the master of the Lord Leycester and discover the fascinating history behind these medieval almshouses, originally built and developed by the local guilds during the 14th and 15th centuries to aid town governance, house travellers and provide support to the poor. In the 16th century, Robert Dudley, of Elizabeth I's court, established a military community of Master and Brethren in the old Guild buildings. The medieval buildings underwent restoration in the mid-19th and 20th centuries, and have just reopened in summer 2023 following a further, multi-million pound restoration. During our tour, we will also hear all about this extensive restoration work.
