Facile Princeps: The Country Houses of David Bryce

8th Apr, 2024
Augustine United Church, Edinburgh

Join AHSS for a talk by Dr Ralph St Clair Wade about the Scottish baronial architect David Bryce (1803 – 1876). He was one of Victorian Britain's most prolific architects, whose opulent, richly-modelled architecture left a lasting impression on Scotland, where he led the revival of the Scottish baronial style. In this talk, Dr Ralph St Clair Wade, lecturer in the history of art at Cambridge University, provides an introduction to Bryce's country house practice and offers new insights into the architect's work, drawn from his doctoral research.
