INFORMATION RESOURCE
The NHLE is the only official and up-to-date database of all nationally designated heritage assets, including listed buildings, scheduled monuments, protected wreck sites, registered parks and gardens. registered battlefields, World Heritage Sites, applications for Certificates of Immunity (COIs) and current Building Preservation Notices (BPNs) in England.
The NHLE is maintained by Historic England, the public body responsible for all heritage designations in England except World Heritage Sites, which are designated by UNESCO.
(Responsibility for the NHLE was taken over from English Heritage in April 2015 when EH separated into two organisations: a new charity, also called English Heritage, which looks after the national heritage collection of more than 400 historic places, and Historic England which inherited all EH's other responsibilities.)
