The AHF is a registered charity founded in 1976 to promote the conservation and sustainable re-use of historic buildings at risk in the UK, for the benefit of the public. Where a building is listed, scheduled, or within a conservation area and of acknowledged historic merit - and ideally involves a change of ownership and /or use - the AHF can help by:

  • Being involved at the earliest stages of a project to give advice and information
  • Working constructively with organisations to identify viable new uses for redundant or under-used buildings
  • Providing vital financial assistance in the form of grants and competitive loans
  • Putting people in touch with other organisations working in their area.

Each year the AHF supports hundreds of projects and its annual review provides a well illustrated guide to the activity of voluntary bodies and building preservation trusts throughout the UK, highlighting their achievements and the buildings they have rescued. A regular blog, New Life for Old Buildings, summarises current issues.
