IRISH GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT

The Department oversees the conservation, preservation, protection and presentation of Ireland's heritage and cultural assets, including historic buildings, monuments and landscapes. The Department also seeks to promote the Irish language and to support the Gaeltacht.

On heritage matters, the Department is responsible for legislation and guidance (including an excellent series of booklets on building conservation which is available as PDFs online), it maintains the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage, and it funds the Heritage Council.
