SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP

The Mausolea and Monuments Trust was founded in 1997 for the preservation of mausolea and funerary monuments in the UK.

Mausolea have much to say about the human condition, family pride, love and loss. No other type of building is quite so personal or diverse. Exposed to the ravages of plants and vandals, and lack of maintenance these builldings are vunerable. The trust seeks to highlight their plight and encourage interest.

Supported by the Pilgrim Trust, Historic England, many other trusts and public donations, the charity has six mausolea in its own guardianship, maintains a gazetteer of all mausolea in the UK, and holds regular lectures and visits to historic buildings.
