The RIBA is a professional body for architects mainly in the UK. It aims to promote good practice in building conservation both among RIBA members and building owners.

RIBA administers an accreditation scheme, the RIBA Conservation Register, for chartered architects working on historic buildings. The register has three levels of membership:

Conservation Registrant - suitable for those working on the repair, maintenance, alteration and refurbishment of heritage buildings, for example unlisted buildings in conservation areas, locally important historic buildings and the general pre-1919 building stock:
Conservation Architect - suitable for those working on regionally important historic buildings such as Grade II listed structures and buildings in sensitive historic environments:
Specialist Conservation Architect - the highest level, suitable for those working on historic buildings of outstanding national importance.
