AMENITY BODY

The Shetland Amenity Trust is a champion for Shetland’s unique heritage and culture, having overarching responsibility for protecting and developing Shetland’s archaeology, architecture, woodlands, environment, place names and natural heritage as well as interpreting Shetland’s heritage and culture and supporting the network of community museums located throughout the isles.

Its strategic objectives in terms of Architectural Heritage are:

• The protection and restoration of Shetland’s architectural heritage to both enhance visual amenity and conserve heritage for the benefit of the public
• Encourage the use of traditional building methods and materials.
