INFORMATION RESOURCE

Founded in 1899 and originally dedicated to Queen Victoria, the VCH is an encyclopaedic record of England's places and people from earliest times to the present day. For each town or city, parish or township, the following topics are covered: settlement (including landscape, archaeology and buildings), landownership and religious history and, since c1950, social and economic history also.

The VCH is used not only by historians, but by experts working in specialist fields such as historical geography, genealogy, architectural and environmental history and archaeology. It is invaluable for those in the legal profession and property world and for amenity societies, conservators, architects and planners.

Many VCH volumes are also available online at www.british-history.ac.uk.
